BBQ Baked Beans

Sometimes a side becomes the star of the show. These BBQ baked beans are what dreams are truly made of. Enjoy with all your favorite BBQ dishes!

Ingredients :
- 2 28 oz. cans of baked beans, you want to use the ones with the least additives you can find, I use only Bush's original
- 3 apples, either gala or Granny Smith, diced into1/4 inch cubes
- 3 good sized Jalepeno’s can sub for 2 green bell peppers to reduce heat, diced
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb. thick cut applewood smoked bacon, diced
- 1 lb. ground sausage, I use Wampler's, for even more bbq flavor flatten on a pan, smoke at 275 for 1 hour, chop fine with a cleaver
- 2 TBSP brown sugar
- 2 TBSP Full Boar BBQ Garden, Barn, and River Rub
- 2 TBSP Full Boar BBQ Classic Campfire BBQ Rub
- 8 oz. Full Boar BBQ Classic Campfire Sauce
- 3 oz. Bourbon, I only use Makers Mark

Instructions:
- use an oven or fire proof Dutch oven or pot over medium heat. I use a 10 quart Lodge . Add the bacon and cook until slightly crispy, if you are not smoking the sausage add it at this time and brown
- Add onions, peppers, garlic, apples, seasonings and sugar to the pot. Cook until onions are translucent and mix in the bourbon cooking at a simmer for 5 minutes
- Add the beans and BBQ sauce stirring well and remove from heat
- Light a chimney of 20-25 charcoal briquettes I use Kingsford charcoal with my Inflame USA fire starters for best results
- place 7-8 lit briquettes on the ground placing the Dutch oven on top. Place the remaining on top
- Cook at this relatively low temp for 2.5- 4 hours stirring every 20-30 minutes
- Serve alongside your favorite BBQ dishes

***To do this recipe in the oven or smoker simply bake at 350 for 2.5 hours***
